UPDATED VENUE The Event will now be held at the Port Huron Doubletree’s Abbey room.
Join us for our first ever Scottish celebration! Spend the day attending a variety of lectures, workshops and presentations before the day culminates in a delicious dinner while you listen to star fiddler Sean Heely!
Start your Scottish day out right at Noon with a whisky tasting! Sample the water of life with Elliot MacFarlane guiding the way. Learn about the history of distilling in Scotland, what makes a great whisky and sip a few of the finest available to try. Makes a great gift! The Whisky tasting and included lunch are $70. The tasting can be a stand alone experience, but you can also stick around to let the good times roll!
At 2pm, sit back and relax as you take in the high energy history of Scottish dance! See demonstrations of the highland dances that are beautifully unique and special to Scottish culture.
After watching a fling, one might wonder what are the Scots wearing? Why are they wearing such clothing? How does one dress in traditional Scottish dress? It’s more than just kilts! Author Ethan MacDonald will be covering the basics of traditional highland dress for men and women and how to build up your wardrobe/how to support traditional highland artisans, as well as his book. Ethan is a published author of Traditional Highland Dress, as well as serving as the Herald and Historian for Clan Donald USA, is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, and the vice president of the Kalamazoo Scottish Festival Association.
The whole day builds to a climax at 6pm, with our lovely dinner! Beef Tenderloin Medallions, Grilled Salmon, Fresh Garden Salad with dressing, Garlic Parmesan red skin potatoes, green bean amandine, pasta Primavera, Antipasto platter, fresh rolls with butter and homemade brownies.
While you eat, listen to the incomparable Sean Heely! Champion fiddler and singer Seán Heely is one of the most creatively versatile and captivating young artists of his generation. He is a U.S National Scottish Fiddle Champion as well as an award-winning Irish Fiddler, singer, and harpist in the folk and Gaelic traditions of Scotland and Ireland.
