Get ready for a mouthwatering experience at the 2nd Annual Taste of Soul Free Tasting Exhibit, where you can indulge in delicious soul food

A Taste of Heritage, History, and Hope – Black History Month 2nd Annual Taste of Soul Event

African American contributions to our nation’s culinary culture are foundational and ongoing. For over 400 years, African Americans have inspired our country’s food through their skill, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Black foodways have shaped much of what we farm, what we cook, what we drink, and where we eat. Black food is American food that showcases community, culture, and resiliency. The Taste of Soul event will be a live-tasting exhibit that traces the delicious foods, moving throughlines from Africa, Jamaica, and Slavery to today’s Soul Food.

This event will be an environment that centers around the cultural power that is Black food. The fun and engaging atmosphere will feature live music and networking opportunities with restaurateurs and live storytelling and an opportunity for community members to explore the From Whence We Came African American Exhibit at the Port Huron Museum. The most important component of this event is the food. This event will feature dishes from Africa, Jamaica, Slavery, and recipes passed down from generation to generation creating what we know today as Soul Food.

During this event, guests will enjoy tasting signature drinks, and African/Black cuisine, from local and neighboring community restaurants like Chef Chris Catering, Elle Symone Catering & Events, Daylicious Drinks and Treats, Jamaican Jerk, Southside Sweets, Yum Village, Baobab Fare.

A Taste of Soul will also showcase African American dance and music as it relates to history and culture as a race. Live entertainment will include a spoken word by local activists, music, and dances. We hope community members will come out and learn, taste, and celebrate Black History with us! This cultural experience brings great food, culture, and entertainment to Port Huron.
