"Seeing Red" will be a textile- and fiber-based art show exploring the spectrum of emotions, symbolism, & interpretations invoked by a single color - RED. Not only is red the first color the human brain sees, it serves to convey many different meanings to every individual person. Sometimes these meanings are in harmony, other times the same color can call to mind conflicting messages. The many vibrant shades of red can evoke feelings of love, anger, romance, heat, strength, evil, blood, passion, or natural components like a sunset, fire, red clay from the Earth, autumn, and so on. There are also various cultural, religious, and spiritual/metaphysical connotations associated with the color red that are fascinating to explore.

 

All of the artwork will be exclusively red or prominently feature the color red in a meaningful way. The final result will be a purposefully monochrome display in our galleries - encouraging visitors to narrow their focus and consider the impact a single color has when it stands on its own.
