James C. Acheson Maritime Gallery

Port Huron Museum

Gallery Named for

James C. Acheson

The Port Huron Museum’s Board of Trustees has unanimously approved the renaming of the 2nd floor marine gallery as the “James C. Acheson Maritime Gallery” at the Carnegie Center, as an acknowledgement and in appreciation for his support.

Actual Motion approved:  Port Huron Museum Board of Trustees, 8-24-16
In recognition of the long term public and financial support given to the Port Huron Museum, the Marine collection located on the second floor of the Carnegie Building will be named the James C. Acheson Maritime Gallery, effective September 27, 2016.
Appropriate signage will be installed to so designate the gallery, as well as a reception/event to honor Mr. Acheson’s contributions at a later date.

With this recognition, some physical changes will be made to the galleries and main entry in the coming months, with the help of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County and his many friends. Thank you Dr. Acheson.

This is part of a larger project to renovate the Port Huron Museums’ Carnegie Center, named Carnegie Reimagined. The last renovation was done in 1972, and plans call for renovation of the two galleries and rotunda on the main floor. Dr. B. Nasr and family have donated $50,000 from the Nasr Family Fund at the Community Foundation of St. Clair County to this effort. Many community members have stepped forward and “adopted” windows and other building features to help fund this effort. Information is available on our website or by calling 810-982-0891.
