Join the Port Huron Museum in a special edition of our Lakeside Cemetery Walking Tour!
Not only will you learn about the history of cemeteries in Port Huron, we will also discuss the changes in graveyards, mourning, and burial practices over time. Hear the stories of moving thousands from older cemeteries across town to their new final resting place in the 1880s. Be fascinated by 19th century burial and mourning practices while visiting the final resting place of some of Port Huron’s most familiar names. With the event being on Halloween, we would be remiss to not discuss the connections of the holiday to beliefs about death. From famous criminals to businessmen and luminaries, there are many who now call Lakeside Cemetery home. Learn how to read and interpret some of the symbology commonly found on grave markers of years gone by. A tour you won’t want to miss!
Tour will start near the chapel, directly north of Stone Street. Tour will be in the elements, rain or shine, so dress accordingly & come prepared.
Museum Members: $10 per person. General Admission: $15 per person.
