Concert for the Light Saturday, September 25, 2009
McMorran Auditorium A benefit concert will be held to raise funds for the restoration and repair of the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse. Featuring music from the VooDoo Doctors and other special musical guests! Additional information to be posted soon... The Friends of the Fort Gratiot Light was organized to rescue the crumbling tower of Michigan's oldest lighthouse and preserve the history of the light station. The application process to transfer the Fort Gratiot Light Station from the United States Government to the Port Huron Museum and its initial partner, the City of Port Huron, has taken many years to near its completion.
With the addition of the support from St. Clair County, the transfer appears to have cleared one of its last hurtles. The final two tasks involve updating the application to name the new partnership of the Port Huron Museum and St. Clair County and to raise the necessary funds to match the grants already awarded. Visiting the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse During this time transition, the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse property continues to be closed to public access. There are no tours available at this time. The tower can be seen from the road (2800 Omar Street) and from Lighthouse Beach. Can't Wait Until the Lighthouse Reopens? Fort Gratiot Lighthouse Virtual Tour Coming Soon...
