Lighthouse Station Renovations Underway
Photos of the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse showing progress of the reconstruction being overseen by the St. Clair County Parks and Recreation Department. We are happy to report the outside bricks and paint on the tower has been completed.
The restoration of the tower is made possible by the Save America’s Treasures Grant program and a match from the city of Port Huron. The tower restoration was started late September and completed early November. The tower is expected to be reopened for tours in the spring of 2012. Once reopened, the Port Huron Museum will serve as a partner in leading programs, education and exhibits on the Light Station grounds. The Coast Guard Station will be used for these programs by museum staff. Please see details.
