Programs &
Education
In 2006, the museum’s
trustees developed a strategic plan that identified the development of
“visitor experiences that encourage learning and are relevant to
people’s lives” as one of its highest priorities. With this goal in
mind, the museum has expanded its programs.
PUBLIC PROGRAMS
Public programs
includes annual events such as the Feast of the Ste. Claire and the
World Festival. Workshops and presentations scheduled to compliment
special exhibitions, such as the Pollinators workshop during the
World of Giant Insects, are also available to the general public.
For more information on annual and upcoming public programs, please
follow the Public
Programs link.
SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Many local residents,
and now their children, remember school field trips to the museum for
Pioneer Days at the log cabin. At the Thomas Edison Depot Museum,
students enjoy learning about electricity during the Wizard's Workshop.
These programs, as well as several others, are offered to help schools
meet the standards set for the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP)
and Michigan's Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCES). To learn more,
and to browse the Teachers Education Guide, please follow the
School Programs
link.
SCOUT PROGRAMS
As a community resource, the museum is an
obvious place for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts to work on badges relating
to history, art, folklore, collecting, and many other topics. Interested
in spending the night aboard the USCG Cutter Bramble and learning how
to be a member of the crew? Check out our newest Scout Program, the
Bramble Overnight. Whether you are a troop leader, pack master, or
parent of a scout, read more by following the
Scout Programs link.
